UMI, Urban Ministries, Inc., is the largest independent African
American-owned religious publisher. Founded in 1970, UMI was the first
company to create media resources designed specifically for African
American churchgoers. People worldwide have relied on UMI’s books,
magazines, videos, and children’s material for Christian lessons steeped
in ethnic context. The company partners with a wide range of African
American denominations and counts thousands of churches as its customers.
Among the books UMI has published are those by such preeminent pastors and
community leaders as Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Dr. Charles Booth, Dr. Vashti
McKenzie, and Deloris Jordan, mother of Michael Jordan. UMI has also
